CrystalCon is primarily a vanity project, as its name suggests. As someone who frequently gives talks and presentations, I often experience rejection from conferences and events. Usually, these rejections are based on valid reasons, such as a large, competitive selection pool, a lack of alignment with the theme, or scheduling conflicts. However, there are occasions when the reasons for rejection are not justified. This is precisely how the idea for Crystal Con originated. Ego injury fueling righteous spite.
Additionally, I often work on ideas and presentations that do not align with existing accessibility or technology conferences and events. It is crucial to explore digital accessibility beyond the confines of code, design, and content. By providing a platform for such discussions, I can shed light on ideas that might otherwise remain overlooked. Moreover, I have the freedom to express myself without fear of offending. I can say “Fuck”.
Furthermore, attending most conferences can be costly and time-consuming, limiting participation. CrystalCon offers a way to share my work without financial burdens or time off, making it more accessible for a wider audience.
